Senate Office of the Secretary TWENTIETH CONGRESS OF THE 25 AUG 27 P2:23 REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES ) First Regular Session RECEIVED BY: SENATE S No. 1289 Introduced By Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" T. Go AN ACT ESTABLISHING IN THE PROVINCE OF ORIENTAL MINDORO, A LEVEL III GENERAL HOSPITAL TO BE KNOWN AS THE MIMAROPA REGIONAL HOSPITAL, AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR EXPLANATORY NOTE According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, the population of Region-IVB or the MIMAROPA region is at 3,382,193. Despite the number of population in the region, a tertiary level hospital remains inexistent, and the operating district hospitals remain insufficient to address the health needs in the region. As a result, patients from Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon needing specialized treatment often avail of medical services from government tertiary hospitals in other regions. To bridge the gap in the provision of health care services in the area and to address geographical challenges in transporting patients, this measure seeks to establish a Level Ill government hospital in Oriental Mindoro to be known as the MIMAROPA Regional Hospital, which shall be under the direct control and supervision of the Department of Health (DOH).

In view of the foregoing, the approval of this bill is earnestly sought. SENATOR CHRISTOPHER LAWRENCE "BONG" T. GO
